The Ellen Kemp Short Story for Under-18s is supported by the Ellen Kemp Memorial Prize.
How to enter
The theme for the short story is Origins; you must include the concept of 'origins' in your story in some way.
Word limit: your story can be up to 1000 words; there is no minimum.
Entries close 9.00am on Monday 17/07/2016. Late entries will not be sent to the judge.
The Rules

Entries must be your own, original work.

Hard copy entries:

Pick up an entry form from school or TNC, Trentham Library or Dr Bs Bookstore.

Your work must be typed and double spaced in a clearly legible font.

Name and contact details must appear on the entry form only and not on the manuscript (judging is anonymous).

Post or drop off your entry form and work to Words in Winter Trentham, Ellen Kemp Short Story for U18s, c/- Post Office, Trentham Vic 3458.

The judge's decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Winning and selected shortlisted works may be used as promotional material for the competition, the Words in Winter Trentham website, or the TNC website, or in print. Published entries may be subject to editing.

Winners will be notified and prizes will be awarded at The Last Word on Sunday 20th August at 4.00pm at Trentham Neighbourhood Centre.
Prizes
There are two prizes this year: one for high school students of $100.00, and for primary school students, two prizes of $50.00 each, one for lower primary and one for upper primary.
2017 Judge
Our judge for 2017 is Agnes Nieuwenhuizen, retired manager of the Australian Centre for Youth Literature and author of numerous books on youth literature and fiction for children. Agnes has written, reviewed and spoken widely in the field and is considered an expert in youth literature and has been a leading advocate for the promotion of books and reading to teenagers. In 1995, she received the Dromkeen Medal for services to youth literature.
