Contemporary Poetry Competition & Event

We want your original poetry on the theme of 'origins'. You can interpret this any way you like and be as creative as you want, but the connection to the theme has to be evident.
The winner will receive a cash prize of $100, donated by The Trentham Collective along with the opportunity to be Featured Poet at the Chamber Poets monthly readings, plus the door takings at that event. The winning poet will also be invited to read at The Last Word on Saturday 20th August commencing at 4.00pm.
The Readings
When: Saturday 19th August 2017,
11.00am - 1.00pm
Where: The Collective, top room, in High Street, Trentham
Cost: Gold coin entry for audience, entrants free.
How it Works: A number of poems will be selected and shortlisted and the poets invited to read at the Contemporary Poetry Reading (details below). The winner will be announced at this event.
How to enter
Theme: Origins
Line limit: 40 lines of poetry text (i.e. not including the title or the spaces between lines).
Entries close: 9am Monday 17th July 2017. Late entries will not be sent to the judges.
Cost of entry: No cost to entrants with a local (3458) postcode, for all others - $10.00 for up to three entries. Payment details are on the entry form.

2017 Judges
This year the Contemporary poetry submissions will be sent to a panel of three judges from The Chamber Poets from Woodend.
Myron Lysenko, accompanied by Ben Oost and Alice Savona, will head the panel. The three worked together as editors of Shots from the Chamber, an anthology of poetry about the Macedon Ranges.
Myron has worked as a professional poet (1989 - 2010) with Nexus Arts Booking Agency. He was co-founder of Going Down Swinging and is the author of five books of poetry and one of haiku, and teaches Creative Writing at the Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre and at the Woodend Neighbourhood House. He is the convenor of Chamber Poets, a monthly reading of spoken word. He also runs regular ginko (haiku walks) in various beautiful scenic places, and, he has judged our Contemporary poetry competition twice before.
Ben is a past winner of this competition and a well-known emerging local poet. His work has been published in anthologies and he is a regular performer at Chamber Poets and other venues. Hit & Miss will publish his first book of poetry.
Alice, also a past winner of this competition, is a writer and psychologist who has been published multiple times in poetry journals such as Cordite & Rabbit. She lives in Woodend with her family.
