John Cook from Trentham Historical Society will walk and talk you around the streets sharing his vast and detailed knowledge of the early history of Trentham. What did the streetscape look like? who were the main shopkeepers? Which came first, pubs or churches? Where did street names come from? Who were the Trewhellas, Gwen Wisewould, Patrick Murphy, and other significant forebears? When was the Mechanics Hall built? When did the Railway come to town?

 

This is a must for all who care about how our beautiful town came to exist. Starting at the Neighbourhood Centre, John will show photos if the weather is too wintry to walk around, but remember that winters are much less severe than one hundred years ago!"

We'll meet outside the Trentham Neighbourhood Centre at 11.00am on Sunday 6th August 2017 and proceed from there. If the weather should be so inclement as to put us off, we'll stay warm inside the Neighbourhood Centre and John will still tell us the stories.
